The Benefits of Pairing Regular Exercise and Massage Therapy

In these challenging economic times, people are looking for ways to cope with stress. Our lives are complicated, fast-paced and at times, physically and emotionally draining.

How do we cope? Well, there are many ways to cope, but some of the ways may not be so good on our bodies and minds! This is where beginning, restarting or staying consistent with an exercise routine and seeing your massage therapist regularly makes perfect sense in these tough times. Personal fitness is a priority for many people. We all know the advantages of why we should work out. So why is pairing exercise and massage therapy so important?

Here are some advantages of regular massage therapy:

1. Helps alleviate low back pain and tight muscles all over the body.
2. Enhances ones immunity by stimulating lymph flow, the body’s natural defense system.
3. Helps athletes and regular exercisers to prepare and recover from strenuous workouts.
4. Lessens depression and anxiety.
5. Promotes tissue regeneration.
6. Helps pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and organs.
7. Helps improve circulation.
8. Releases endorphins, amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller.
9. Improves flexibility and range of motion.
10. Improves rehabilitation after injury.
11. Management of chronic pain conditions.
12. Helps foster piece of mind.

As you can see, massage therapy has many of the same advantages as participating in regular exercise. Each affect the body in different ways and both are important to each other.

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. Working out and getting a massage regularly can help you alleviate stress. Taking part in this form of regularly scheduled self-care can play a huge part in how healthy you’ll be and how youthful you’ll remain with each passing year. Budgeting time and money for exercise and massage therapy at consistent intervals is truly an investment in your health. Many of my regular clients, for example, know that even skipping a meal out once a week helps pay for part of their personal training with me! They make it work with their budget and time constraints. And remember, just because massage feels like a pampering treat doesn’t mean it is any less therapeutic. Consider massage appointments a necessary piece of your health and wellness plan, and work with your practitioner to establish a treatment schedule that best meets your needs.
